“Our children are our future and one of the basic responsibilities is to care for them in the best and most compassionate manner possible.” By Nelson Mandela
About us
The Dr Christian Foundation ( DR CF) was established in 2017 out of a growing need to empower people in underprivileged communities, particularly those overlooked by charities to lead healthy lives and have equitable access to opportunities such as education, health and other basic needs.
The Dr CF was founded by Dr Mzuyanda Christian (PhD) who is an academic and a lecturer. Dr Christian belives in equal opportunities regardless of one’s background. This stems from his experiences and observations which triggered the need to empower and care for rural communities where basic needs such as school shoes are a luxury. Growing up in deep rural areas, Dr Christian witnessed the hardship and difficult circumstances under which his peers lived. Most household in the area primarily depends on government grants and agriculture for a living. They live in mud houses, which – like most schools – are not connected to the electricity grid. They cook their food on a wood fire and fetch water every day from the rivers and dams. In most secondary schools, there is a high level of dropouts as a result of inadequate access to basic needs such as school uniform. The sad reality is that families in the area are faced with deep financial hardship and as a result are not able to support their children with school fees, uniforms, shoes and stationary. This concern was the driving force in the formulation of Dr Christian Foundation. The Foundation believes that The RIGHT TO EDUCATION is a basic right of any child living in South Africa.
